(KSL News) The Salt Lake County Council voted to ban children from riding in large 15-passenger vans. That includes young riders who participate in the Utah Transit Authority's van pool.

The move comes in the wake of two fatal large-van accidents.

The first, last September, killed eight Utah State University students and their professor when their van rolled over near Tremonton.

Over the weekend, a European tourist was killed when a large van rolled near Monticello.

Full-size 15-passenger vehicles are five times more likely to roll than a regular car.

The county plans to eventually phase out the use of the vehicles altogether.
