PROVO, Utah (AP) -- Any cigar-ad nostalgia people might have had in Provo may be gone soon.
A fading cigar advertisement painted on the side of an old building is considered a quaint landmark to some people, who hope a proposed office tower won't snuff the old-time ad.
The Provo Landmarks Commission asked the developer of University Tower in November to consider restoring the ad as a tribute to the past.
The phrase "A Great 5 (cent) Cigar" is plainly visible through the worn paint and is estimated to be anywhere from 60 to 90 years old.
The University Tower project would include an 11-story building and two additional four-story buildings. But the wall with the ad would still be visible in an inner corridor.
The developer is not required to save the ad because it's not on any historical registers.
