MOUSTACHIA — Welcome to November or as it is called now, MO-VEMBER! A month for men to get back to their roots and act like men — if their wives let them. A month of camping, fishing, head-butting and building things out of wood. A time to grow out facial hair in any majestic style they choose and not be kissed for that same amount of time.

For the month of Movember, let's identify some of the mustaches that inspired guys to grow lesser mustaches of their favorite musicians. With these mustaches installed on their lips, musicians were able to tackle some of the greatest songs ever recorded.

Do you think Jimi Hendrix could have played the national anthem on guitar as well without that light dusting of manliness on his upper lip? Where would all those terrible home videos of grown men playing air guitar to the same song be?

Would Freddie Mercury evoke as much emotion singing "Somebody to Love" without his sweet lip hat? I tell you what, if he didn't, I would never sing that song in the shower after a breakup — which I never do.

Who would have ever heard of Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead if it wasn't for his face furniture going from lip to cheek to ear? Mosh pits would have been less "let's run into each other till we pass out," and more "I can really hear the angst in his lyrics."

I say nay sir. Nay. So let's look at the five mustaches and their owners who made us sing in the car like no one else was there.

Freddie, front man for Queen, had a glorious mustache. It was a sight to behold and always left you wondering if you could grow a stache like his. He probably grew his first in sixth grade and never looked back. Queen has more hits than I can list, but I cherish the soundtrack to Flash Gordon, where Queen made all of the songs amazing.

Nobody had a better stache than Lionel. The mustache was almost a perfect right angle. I bet I could have torn it off, thrown it and it would have come right back and landed on his face. Songs like "Easy," "Say You Say Me," "Endless Love" and "Hello" are responsible for a population boom in the ’80s. At the very least, they caused school dance officials to work overtime at keeping those kids a safe distance apart.

John Oates

John was the other half of Hall and Oates, and even though he sometimes stood in the background to Daryl Hall's amazing vocals, John's stache was always in the front. His mustache was always in perfect order, crumb free and probably brushed 100 times a day. John knew what it took to keep his lip brow in order.

What do you do when you are 6-foot-8, 115 pounds and want to rap? Grow a mustache son. Snoop has always been smooth and so has his mustache. It almost looks like it's made of cashmere. He has stayed true to it and it has been true to him. My formative years were spent listening to Snoop and trying to look tough rolling in a Celica with 6x9's in the back seat.

Frank Zappa

Frank made music that was amazing and confusing. Some of it I'm still trying to figure out. However Frank never quit the mustache. Even pics from high school show him embracing it early and keeping it strong. Frank was an amazing guitarist and composer and his life was cut short by prostate cancer. A true inspiration on what this month is also about.

So remember men, during Movember, let's remember what men are about and get back to our roots. We are hard workers, good fathers and husbands, we are self-sufficient and can solve any problem. We can also save lives by getting our dads, uncles, grandpas and ourselves in for prostate exams. You can also give to a variety of charities that help fund research to help fight cancer and prostate cancer.

So grow a stache or a mouth broom, a whistle thistle, some face carpet, a lip cozy, mouth scarf, food feeler, kiss repellant, smile enhancer, face wig, whisker do and whisker don't, and let's raise awareness about Movember and prostate cancer.
