ODGEN — Police officers extinguished a small kitchen fire that may have been intentionally set early Tuesday morning.

Around 4:40 a.m. two police officers responded to a house fire call at 671 20th Street in Ogden. The officers were able to enter the home and put out a fire on the stove with an extinguisher before fire crews arrived.

Eric Bauman, the Deputy Chief with the Ogden City Fire Department, said that when firefighters did arrive, they quickly suspected arson. But since the investigation is ongoing, no further details about how the fire started are being released.

"There is one suspect in custody, the occupant of the home," Bauman said.

The man was found hiding across the street in a cemetery, watching as police and fire crews arrived. He was taken to Weber County Jail as the investigation continues.

The fire was contained to the kitchen with an estimated $3,000 in damage.

Investigators say there is no evidence to link this fire to the Ogden Parkway Trail fires, and they do not believe that the fires are in any way connected.
