SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Gov. Jon Huntsman says he will veto a bill that would restrict his authority to make interstate agreements if it hits his desk.
The bill's sponsor, Republican Sen. Scott Jenkins of Plain City, says it isn't a personal issue. He says he's not worried about Huntsman's judgment as much as those who would follow.
But Hunstman says the state benefits from his ability to make such agreements, like the one last year with California Gov. Arnold Achwarzenegger regarding climate change.
Senate Bill 144 passed in the Senate by more than two-thirds of votes and could be immune to veto power if it passes by the same margin in the House. The bill was amended last week to exempt agreements costing $50,000 or less.
