SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A federal jury has ruled that a woman exaggerated claims that she was permanently injured after a deputy threw her down a flight of movie theater stairs.
The jury cleared Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Harold "Skip" Curtis of civil claims by Vanessa Arnold.
The week-long trial revolved around an encounter at a Provo theater in 2004. Arnold claims Curtis yelled at her and her boyfriend for talking during a movie. When her boyfriend demanded an apology afterward, an argument ensued and Curtis arrested the man. Arnold says when she asked Curtis to stop, he threw her down the stairs.
She says she suffered vision loss and chronic neck and back pain.
Arnold's attorney plans to appeal the decision.
