WILLARD — A semitrailer hit a guard rail on I-15 and ignited Friday morning. One lane of southbound I-15 was closed for a few hours near Willard Bay as crews cleaned up the accident.
The Willard City Fire Department said an Associated Foods truck was returning to a warehouse in Farr West when it hit the guard rail near Willard Bay and caught fire around 5:20 a.m.
The driver escaped, refused treatment and was released on scene.
It took firefighters 15 minutes to control the fire, and an hour and 2,000 gallons of water to extinguish it.
The truck and trailer, which was empty, are a total loss.
Both southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for much of the morning for cleanup of the truck and spilled fuel. A 2-mile backup was reported around 9 a.m. as the left lane reopened.
