SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Legislature will consider whether to remove a ban on adoption by couples living together but not married, including gay couples.

The ban, instituted in 2000, is being challenged by Rep. Rebecca Chavez-Houck, who says it's becoming increasingly hard to match children with the traditional mother-and-father family.

The bill will likely face an uphill battle in a state where voters have approved a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and other domestic unions.

Another bill on gay rights issues would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the state's provision against workplace discrimination.
