(Taylorsville) - Salem Hills defeated Box Elder 3-2 to win the 4A softball state championship, the first state title in school history.

"Incredible. Nothing will ever compare to this moment," says Salem Hills pitcher Kirtlyn Bohling. "We've worked so hard for it. To finally get it is amazing."

The Skyhawks scored two runs in the 5th inning capped off by a solo home run by Abbie Tuttle to take a 3-1 lead.

"It was just needed," says Tuttle of her home run. "It was the time for it."

Box Elder would cut that lead to one in the 6th inning when Myranda Hernandez singled in a run.

They couldn't get the tying run in the 7th inning as Tuttle caught a fly ball to clinch the victory.

Salem Hills junior Kirtlyn Bohling pitched a complete game for the win. She was the hero on Tuesday when her walk-off grand slam gave her team a win over Box Elder to advance in the winner's bracket.

"We just set a new tradition for Salem Hills," says Bohling. "We're going to be successful and do what we should do which is win."

Salem Hills finishes the season with a 24-3 record while Box Elder finishes with a 26-3 record.
