METROPOLIS — We're just a few weeks away from the "Man of Steel" premiere, and to keep you excited about the new Superman film Warner Bros. has released the final trailer.

The earlier trailers for the film have been a visual feast with a small taste for the action and emotion we can expect. It appears the story in "Man of Steel" will be deeper and richer than most of the other Superman films, but this final trailer doesn't use The Last Son of Krypton as its focus, but rather his foe, General Zod.

The trailer suggests that Earth is completely oblivious to the fact that we are not alone in the universe, a la "The Avengers," when General Zod overtakes the airwaves and warns our planet of his plans.

Zod wants Kal-El and nothing more. The way the trailer plays out, it feels as if Zod views planet Earth as harboring a fugitive of Krypton and will take military action if we refuse to give up the expatriate.

From there, the trailer gets less talk-y and more action-y. Yes, those were lazy words, but it's exactly what I'm going for.

The action looks intense and constant according to this trailer, which is a departure from our last look at Supes in 2006's "Superman Returns." While I actually enjoyed that film, it appears that "Man of Steel" is faster paced and much more intense.

While this trailer forced my corneas to give each other a high five, something about it left me a tiny bit less excited than the earlier trailers.

If you have read any of my earlier articles you will find that I am a person who likes my films more based in reality. This is why I feel the Dark Knight trilogy is superior to Marvel's universe. The earlier trailers gave the feeling of this more realistic Superman — well, as realistic as you can get — but this trailer feels more removed from that perceived reality.

When I mention that I am a tiny bit less excited about the film now that I have seen this trailer, make sure you have some perspective here.

My excitement level for "Man of Steel" was like the height of the Empire State Building; it is now around the height of the Chrysler Building. That's a measly 408 feet. The next film I'm excited about this summer is around the height of the Church Office Building, 420 feet.

With that said, "Man of Steel" looks more than promising, and it boasts one of the best casts ever assembled for a comic book movie. It's also written by one of the writers of arguably the greatest comic book movie ever, "The Dark Knight," and has one of the most visual directors in the game today.

"Man of Steel" flies into theaters June 14.
