SALT LAKE CITY (AP)— Actor and filmmaker Robert Redford is set to speak at the Westminster College commencement ceremony in June.

The college announced the news Monday.

Redford is known for his roles in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Horse Whisperer, among others films. In the mid 1980's, he launched The Sundance Film Festival. The festival is considered a mecca for low-budget filmmakers and daring stories that reach beyond the Hollywood blockbuster mill.

Redford is also an environmental activist.

Westminster President Brian Levin-Stankevich says Redford's commitment to social justice and conservation is an inspiring model for graduating students.

Westminster is a private liberal arts college in Salt Lake City. It has about 2,500 undergrads and over 750 graduate students.

The ceremony will take place on June 1 in West Valley City.
