SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch says Mitt Romney probably should give a speech to declare he's not a captive of the Mormon church.
Hatch says Romney, a Republican candidate for president, needs to make clear that he would represent all people. Hatch says the Mormon church doesn't tell Romney what to do, and Romney doesn't tell the church what to do.
Hatch and Romney belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hatch says there's much "misinformation" in the public about the Mormon religion. He didn't offer any specifics during an interview Tuesday with The Associated Press.
Hatch made similar comments during an appearance at Utah Valley State College in Orem. He has endorsed Romney's run for the White House.
