SALT LAKE CITY — A young man who was angry over being dumped by his girlfriend is accused of throwing a beer can at a police officer.

Court documents show a unified police officer was standing outside his patrol car near 1500 West and 4700 South on Aug. 17 when a white station wagon drove by. The driver chucked an empty can of Bud Light at the officer.

The documents say a chase followed that ended with police spinning their car around.

The driver was an 18-year-old man who was mad and said he wanted to get in trouble because he just got dumped by his girlfriend. He told police he thought the fastest way to get in trouble would be throwing something at police.

He was charged Thursday with assaulting an officer, failure to stop, and driving with alcohol in his system.
