Samantha Hayes reporting As you crawl into bed tonight, check your covers. Exterminators say bed bugs might be hiding there waiting.

You can be an obsessive cleaner and still have bed bugs. They do not carry diseases, but that's about the only good thing.

They can be found in curtains, couches, and of course, beds. The insects like to hide in seams. Most folks don't realize they have them until they are bitten.

Katie Madsen, Bitten by Bed Bugs: Ew...ew."

Katie Madsen woke up with itchy bites down her arm and back last fall.

Katie Madsen, Bitten by bed bugs: "At work I'd be scratching, asked my roomates. They said, 'You have these bumps that look like bites.'"

Steve Christiaens, Awesome Pest Control: "They are usually extremely surprised. Oh I have bed bugs! I thought that was an old wives' tale."

But the tale is true and exterminator Steve Christaens shows us where those little blood sucking insects hide before they find your bed.

Steve Christiaens, Awesome Pest Control: "They can climb up this curtains they can climb up the folds and that. Again you are looking at seams. Where you have multiple dwellings or apartments right on top of one another or next to another if the infestation has been there long enough, will they spread? You betcha."

In fact, two floors above Madsen is apartment number eleven where Lenae Crandall lives.

We talked on the floor because her bed bug infested couches were removed.

Lenae Crandall, Aparment had bed bugs: "I think it may have been bitten. I had some spots on my neck."

Steve Christiaens, Awesome Pest Control: "There has definitely been an increase in bed bugs. A lot more travel now, a lot more travel through out the entire world."

Katie Madsen says this apartment complex is a favorite of foreign language students. It's her theory bed bugs caught a ride into the country and then into the building.

Katie Madsen: "They may be small but they were gross. And they are living in my bed so they can suck my blood at night. Great, that's really great."

Madsen and other residents of that Provo apartment building had to either bleach or throw away their bedding and have their units sprayed several times.
