(KSL News) -- Groundbreaking ceremonies today on a new temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Members of the Quorum of the Seventy and other leaders helped kick off construction in Twin Falls, Idaho.

The temple will be used by some 40,000 church members as a place to worship and be married. They used to have to travel to Boise, Idaho Falls or Logan.

Kim Harper, Rupert, Idaho Resident: "It's a blessing. We travel now quite a little distance I guess to the temple and now we get to travel about 40 minutes and come more often"

Paul Koelliker, Exec. Dir, LDS Church Temple Dept.: "This temple is what has become known as the smaller temples but its' not very small. It's really a good size temple about 18 thousand to 20 thousand square feet."

About a thousand people were there, and many more watched inside stake centers.

Construction is expected to be finished in two years.

This will be the fourth LDS temple in Idaho.
