(KSL News) The mayor of Provo today made what he called a "hole-in-one" announcement. The city is getting a new commercial center and giving the East Bay Golf Course a "face-lift," all funded by the Boyer Company.
The new Southgate Commercial Center will be located at the intersection of University Ave. and 1860 South. It should be open for business by July of 2009 and will house national retailers like Target, Circuit City and PetSmart.
The East Bay Golf Course will undergo two phases of reconfiguration but plans to keep at least 18 holes in play during construction.
Provo Mayor Lewis Billings, said, "This is exciting. This is going to allow us, without raising anybody's taxes, without issuing any debt, to take a course that has been a great, historic course and put it back where it should be."
The golf course is scheduled to be completed by fall of 2009.
