(KSL News) A fire that nearly destroyed an apartment building in Salt Lake City in October is being called arson.

Fire officials say a fight broke out about 45 minutes before the fire started on a second-story balcony at the apartment building at 959 Genesee Ave.

They believe it was gang-related, but at this point no one will give any information about what happened.

Scott Freitag of the Salt Lake City Fire Department said, "It's one thing to be upset at somebody. It's another thing to use such a deadly force like fire to get back and then put so many other people's lives in jeopardy."

Twelve people were displaced from their homes, and one woman was injured when she leaped from a window. Fire investigators have no suspects.
