According to Mormon Newsroom, the first known members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil were two German families who immigrated there — one in 1913 and the other in 1923. During the decade that followed, others joined the Church, and the first congregation was organized in 1930. By the end of the 1950s, church members totaled 3,700. Today, more than 1.1 million Latter-day Saints live in Brazil.
Connecticut and Indiana temple renderings
This week the church also released renderings of the planned Indianapolis Indiana Temple (click to view) and Hartford Connecticut Temple (click to view).
The church also said the temple in Connecticut will be built at 1024 Farmington Ave. in Farmington.
The church announced the site of the Indiana temple, to be built on the southwest corner of W116th and Spring Mill Road in Carmel, Ind., in January 2011.
Church Pres. Thomas S. Monson announced construction of both temples during October 2010 general conference.
