Woman left unharmed after insane convenience store hit- and-run

A Connecticut woman got lucky in an unusual way while buying a lottery ticket Monday at her local 7-Eleven.

Jonaya Peterson was paying at the front counter of the store when a black Ford Explorer drove through the front of the store, grazing her side but leaving her standing.

Security camera footage of the incident shows Peterson approach the counter. A few seconds later, the SUV crashed through the front of the store at a slight angle to the front counter, hitting the counter but leaving Peterson, who had jumped on the counter, unharmed.

"Very shocking. I didn't know what to do. I was just standing there. It was so unreal," Peterson told NBC Connecticut after the incident.

According to court documents, Kennedy Dowdell, the driver of the SUV, refused to take a sobriety test upon being tracked down.

"I ain't taking no test. I'm drunk and I know I will fail the test," he reportedly said.

Dowdell faces charges of third-degree assault and operating under the influence, among other charges.

One of the strangest obituaries ever?

A Colorado man has continued to make people smile even after his death.

Michael "Flathead" Blanchard's paid obituary, printed April 12 in the Denver Post, describes him as a fun-loving guy.

"He enjoyed booze, guns, cars and younger women until the day he died," the obituary read.

It said he wanted it known that he died of stubbornness: he refused to follow doctors' orders for more than six decades.

The response on the paper's Facebook page was overwhelmingly positive, with readers saying they wished they had had a chance to know Blanchard.

"A great laugh," wrote Karen Foxwell Caphin. "More folks should be that honest."

Man's questionable dating spreadsheet gets leaked

A New York financial services employee is under fire for a personal spreadsheet was shared with a date and subsequently leaked online.

The employee, named Dave, kept track of all of his Match.com dates with an Excel spreadsheet, making note of biographical data such as age and real name, but adding personal observations of there appearances, analyses of dates, and records of communication.

Dave went on a date April 4 with a woman named Arielle, according to Deadspin, a Gawker site.

According to Dave's spreadsheet, he thought Arielle was "very pretty", "sweet & down to earth," and had a "great personality." He hoped to see her again soon.

He said as much, too, in an email he sent to Arielle after their date.

"I hope this e-mail doesn't backfire, because I really had a great time and hope to hang again soon," it read in part.

The email backfired about two days later.

"I went on a date with this guy last wednesday," Arielle wrote in an email with the spreadsheet attached. "On the date, he tells me that he has a spreadsheet for tracking all of the people from match that are ‘in process.'"

"Just when I thought I had seen it all …" she added.

Dave on Wednesday told Jezebel, another Gawker site, that the spreadsheet was "an extraordinarily dumb decision" and that "he'll take the blame on this one," although he felt he was owed an apology for the leak, because his spreadsheet was not intended to be creepy, or public.

"I work with spreadsheets a lot," he said. "It's a great additional tool. I work long days, go to the gym, go out on a couple of midweek dates or what not, get home late ... how am I going to remember them? I'm not. So I made the spreadsheets. My comments aren't malicious or mean. This was an honest attempt to stay organized."

Swan attacks man

An aggressive swan was linked to the death Saturday of an Illinois man.

Officials said Anthony Hensley, an experienced kayaker, may have gotten too close to a nesting swan while observing the birds.

Witnesses did not see a bird attack Hensley, but saw him fall from his kayak before the spot was circled by two birds. Hensley died as he was swimming to shore.
