WEST VALLEY CITY - Connor Williams and Cody Benson combined for 33 points as Bingham defeated Hunter 59-45 in the first round of the 5A state tournament.

The Miners started strong with a 16-3 lead and led 20-9 after the 1st quarter. Hunter would rally in the 2nd quarter behind the shooting of freshman Noah Togiai cutting the deficit to two.

The Wolverines blocked 8 shots and held Bingham to just 30 percent shooting.

Bingham would pull away in the 2nd half. Cody Benson led a 10-2 run to start the half with a 3-point play and a three-pointer. Connor Williams threw down a dunk during the run helping the Miners earn a shot at West Jordan in Thursday's quarterfinals.

Dimitri Saliba led the Wolverines with 17 points. Jake Bagley had 14 points and 8 rebounds for Bingham. Durrant Miles of Bingham pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
