The Aggies won't have to wait until next season to play a future conference rival in football.
That's because Utah State will square of against Washington State in the 29th-annual Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, which will take place on Monday, Dec. 22, at noon at Boise State's Albertsons Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN.
USU will officially join the Pac-12 Conference on July 1, 2026, and thus will start playing WSU on a yearly basis.
This will be USU's 18th bowl appearance, highlighted by 12 in the past 15 seasons. Additionally, this will be the Aggies' sixth time competing at the Potato Bowl — formerly known as the Humanitarian Bowl — as they are 1-4 all-time at this annual postseason game.
The Aggies (6-6), who are 6-11 all-time in bowls, and Cougars (6-6) have played on five other occasions and Washington State leads the all-time series, 3-2. Washington State beat USU at home, 49-28, a season ago.
USU and WSU didn't face any common opponents during the 2025 campaign, but the Cougars did go 2-0 against teams from the Mountain West as they beat San Diego State by a 36-13 scoreline in Pullman, Washington, plus dispatched of Colorado State, 20-3, on the road.
The last four times the Aggies ended the regular season at 6-6 — in 2015, 2017, 2022 and 2023 — they went on to lose their bowl game, so it's a streak they're motivated to terminate.
