CLEARFIELD -- People in one neighborhood are on guard after seven cars were burglarized Sunday.

Police say the thieves were looking for things they could access easily, checking for unlocked doors and open garages.

At least seven cars and one garage had things missing from them between 300 North and Barlow Street and 800 North and 775 West in Clearfield. Police estimate that the thieves surveyed about 35 cars during their spree between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sunday morning.

Typically, cases like this are difficult to investigate because thieves hit an area pretty quickly, take what they want and leave, but police have been able to track the thieves by their footprints left in the fresh snow. Police say they are looking for three men.

"We know what their footprints look like," said Corporal Ryan Freeman with the Clearfield Police Department. "We know there was three individual sets of footprints."

Jennifer Davis, was the owner of one car that thieves surveyed and left. She noticed something unusual this morning. She walked out to her car in the front driveway and walked back inside after noticing a trail of footprints around her car. Since snow had started falling, she had been awake but hadn't noticed anyone come to the door. Unnerved, she went inside.

"Keep your cars locked. Keep your garage doors shut. That will definitely help out," Freeman said.

Investigators are looking for help in finding the men. They think they went through the neighborhood on foot and then took off in a car parked nearby. If you think you saw them early this morning or have any tips, you are asked to call the Clearfield Police Department at 801-525-2806.
