MENDON, Cache County — A 2-year-old boy died Monday after accidentally being hit by his father in the driveway of the family's home.
Around 11:30 a.m., the boy's mother had just returned to the family's home at 6473 W. 400 South. The child was outside playing, according to Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Matt Bilodeau. The boy's father was backing out of the garage when he "felt that he had run over something."
"He stopped and discovered it was his son," Bilodeau said.
The boy had obvious head trauma and was not breathing when paramedics arrived, prompting them to begin CPR efforts. A medical helicopter was expected to meet the boy at the hospital, but police reported at 12:50 p.m. that the boy had died.
The child's father is undergoing interviews and will have his blood drawn, per state law, Bilodeau said.
