OREM -- A small pet store is hoping someone will turn in a couple who stole an expensive puppy Jan. 11 while the store was open with employees nearby.
A heavy-set couple knew exactly what they were looking for when they walked in to the Animal Ark Pet Store at 33 West Center Street and made their way toward the backroom, according to morning shift manager Jenny Locke.
The male allegedly acted as a look-out while the female snuck into a back room and put a shih-tzu puppy in her purse.
The dog was white with black and brown spots and valued at $500. Locke said that is a big hit to their small mom-and-pop store.
Orem police are looking at surveillance video from the store to try to track down the couple.
According to the Orem Police Department, the dog was later returned through the back door, but the person who returned it was not seen. Officers are still investigating several leads.
