ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- Dixie State College plans to seek an affiliation with the University of Utah has a lot of people in St. George talking. And they have a variety of opinions.
Dixie State board of trustees Chairman Shandon Gubler says such an affiliation could boost enrollment significantly.
At a meeting yesterday, one St. George resident suggested that if the affiliation were made, Dixie State should be renamed the University of Utah in Utah's Dixie.
But a Dixie State faculty member, Brent Hanson, says some people have a problem with certain images in history associated with the word Dixie.
Not everyone agreed. But one Dixie State sophomore said she finds the Confederate flag offensive along with other Dixie images.
