OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- A construction project on Interstate 15 in Weber County includes $200,000 for art on six bridges.
Many murals will be below the bridges, which means it may be easier for passengers to look at art rather than drivers. "We encourage drivers to watch the roadway when they're driving," said Andy Neff, a public-involvement manager at the Utah Department of Transportation.
The murals, made of stainless steel and concrete, depict a theme related to the location.
Ogden chose outdoor recreation, with winter sports on the northbound side and summer activities on the southbound side, Neff said. "In general, though, the cities will have themes that reflect their history," he said.
The artist is Tod Wadsworth of Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction. West Haven, Marriott-Slaterville and Farr West will have art on bridges in their communities. "We try to make them as maintenance-free as possible," Wadsworth said.
