SALT LAKE CITY -- At the end of August 12-year-old Talon Ackerman said he hoped to make it to Broadway soon, and he was serious about it.
At the time he was co-starring in the Broadway touring company of "Mary Poppins." Now the young Utahn is performing in the new Broadway musical "Bonnie and Clyde," about the notorious criminal couple of the 1930s.
"It was cool, this has been my dream to get to Broadway since I was little and now that I'm finally here, it's great," he said.
Talon plays young Clyde. His life is filled with performances, meeting with reporters and walking the red carpet with Kelsey Fowler, his fellow cast member who plays Bonnie. When he's not performing, he takes classes online, for now.
"In the new year, I'm going to move to PPAS, which is a school for actors," he said. "There's a lot of kids there that are on Broadway, like 'Billy Elliott, and stuff like that and so, yes, I'm excited to go because instead of having math and science (we still have that) it also focuses on tap."
The new musical has received mixed reviews but Talon remains hopeful. Tickets are only being sold through the end of December, so there are questions about when it will close.
"It's American history mixed in with some love story, mixed in with some action and so I think that's what Broadway needs right now and everyone I've talked to who's seen it, absolutely loves it," Talon said. "So, if you can see it, you tell me how I'm doing."
Starring in this show, is another Utahn, Claybourne Elder. He plays Buck Barrow, Clyde's brother. He graduated from the U. of U. Department of Theatre.
