WEST JORDAN — A Copper Hills High School student was seriously injured Tuesday when he fell 20 feet from a balcony inside the school.
Witnesses told police sophomore Andrew Pritchett was doing tricks for some friends just after school got out. He was attempting a handstand on the railing when he fell.
"The officers on scene are indicating that they appear to be some fairly significant head injuries," said West Jordan Police Sgt. Rich Bell.
Two teachers rushed over began performing CPR. Pritchett was transported by medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center, where he's listed in critical condition.
"In our high schools we have a substantial counseling staff that are really good at helping the students cope with difficult times that they might face," said Steve Dunham, spokesman for the Jordan School District.
"If necessary, we have an emergency crisis team that we can respond also to the school to help out there," Dunham said.
The fall was captured on the school's surveillance system, but police are not releasing that video.
