Richard Piatt ReportingGovernor Jon Huntsman Junior is in Iraq this afternoon. He is among a group of US Senators and governors who are the guest of Arizona Senator John McCain.

This trip was well-planned, behind the scenes, but top secret to everyone else for security reasons. Its purpose is nothing more than an opportunity for the governor to take a look at the situation in Iraq firsthand.

Since 9-11, more than 4,000 Utah soldiers and airmen from the Utah National Guard have gone to Iraq. 1,000 are there right now, not to mention Utahns in other branches of the military. This visit will surely be a surprise to those who are serving at this time.

Michael Mower, Governor Huntsman Spokesman: "He's the Commander in Chief of the Utah National Guard, and as Commander in Chief is anxious to find out firsthand how our troops are doing."

Along with the governor, Senator McCain has invited the governors of Alabama and Minnesota, as well as four Congressmen.

The Governor will be there a few days, visiting various spots. Exact details are top secret for security reasons.
