SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Despite Utah's red-hot job market, Utah's largest shelter -- the Road Home -- is serving increasing numbers of homeless families.

This winter it served 102 families, up 62 percent from last year.

Low-income advocates say poverty and the lack of affordable housing are two growing trends.

Meanwhile, the federal government is shrinking rent-assistance programs, which helps move families out of shelters and into transitional housing.

Tim Funk of the Crossroads Urban Center food pantry says Utah's housing authorities lost 895 or nine percent of their Section eight rent vouchers last year because of federal cuts, and President Bush is proposing more cuts in the 2007 budget.
