PLEASANT GROVE — A 17-year-old boy is in "severe critical condition" after being hit twice by vehicles while crossing a busy road, police said.
About 6:45 a.m. Monday, the teen attempted to cross State Street near 300 East to catch a bus, said Pleasant Grove Police Sgt. Josh Motsinger. The road is seven lanes, including turning lanes, in that area, he said.
The boy was almost hit by northbound traffic, Motsinger said. When the teen started crossing the southbound lanes, he was hit once by a small passenger vehicle and thrown into another lane, where he was hit by an SUV.
The teen was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center with severe head trauma, Motsinger said.
It was still dark at that time of the morning and the boy was wearing dark grey pants and a black shirt.
"He was not very visible at all," he said.
The boy was reportedly trying to catch a bus to go to Spanish Fork. It was not immediately known Monday why the boy was traveling to Spanish Fork.
The drivers who hit the boy were shaken but not injured, Motsinger said. He did not anticipate anyone being charged for the incident.
