BYU linebacker Jordan Pendleton made several key 3rd down stops. Ole Miss took all the momentum into the second half after scoring with minutes to go in the first half. The Rebels received the ball to start the second half. Jordan Pendleton made a huge stop to take away that momentum, and gave the BYU offense the ball back. Pendleton put pressure on the quarterback, disrupting the passing game when Ole Miss was just beginning to rely on it.
The BYU Offensive Line
The offensive line looked great and allowed the Cougars to control the clock. Jake Heaps suffered only one sack, that was early in the game. Matt Reynolds, starting left tackle, delivered the needed protection throughout the game. The line created great holes and made great space for the rushers. The line was dominate and allowed the offense the need time to create plays downs field.
Jeff Scott, Ole Miss Sophomore, Running Back
Jeff Scott Ole Miss, running back/kick returner was carted off the field in the first quarter. Scott later returned to provide the Rebels a needed spark right before the half. Scott had a huge return and several key rushes and put the Rebels up 3-0 before heading into the locker room.
Ross Apo, BYU Redshirt Freshman, Wide Receiver
Ross Apo had the only offensive touchdown in the game. Apo looked great. He had one particularly great reception - Heaps spotted him in one-on- one coverage and Apo simply went up and got it. The one-on-one reception put BYU in the red zone. The entire receiving team looked great, it seems that the problem of receivers dropping balls was corrected in the off- season.
Kyle Van Noy, BYU Sophomore Linebacker
Kyle Van Noy stepped up when the Cougars need it most. He caused a fumble and recovered it on the 3-yard line then stumble into the end zone, giving the Cougars a 14-13 lead. That touchdown was vital in the win over Ole Miss.
