PROVO -- A 23-year-old man was rescued from Rock Canyon Saturday afternoon after falling while hiking.
Tyson Thomas was hiking with Andrew Byington, 23, in the cliffs of Rock Canyon without climbing gear when Thomas slipped and fell approximately 60 feet and sustained a compound fracture to his femur.
Byington was able to stabilize himself on the small ledge while waiting to be rescued.
Just before 2 p.m., the Provo Police Department responded to the scene, with rescue crews working around the ledge above Byington.
Thomas was cared for by Provo Paramedics before being transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, where his condition is unknown. Byington sustained no injuries.
