SALINA, Sevier County — Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide here after finding the bodies of a 39-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man.

Police were called to the area of 289 N. 100 East around 5:30 a.m. on reports of a shooting, Sevier County sheriff's officials reported. Tina Bates and Tracy Hill, both of Salina were found dead in the home.

Police said "it appears to be a murder-suicide" and said Bates' teenage son was in the home at the time of the shooting.

The boy "was also confronted by Hill but was able to escape uninjured to the neighbor’s house where he asked them to call 911," according to the Sevier County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators determined that Bates and Hill have been dating for "several years," but had recently broken up. The motive behind the shooting is currently unknown.

The incident remains under investigation. Both bodies have been transported to the state medical examiner's office.
