KAMAS — A Summit County man was found dead near Big Elk Lake Monday evening.
Ricky Widdison, 54, of Heber City was found by a scout troop around 5:30 p.m., Summit County Sheriff's detective Ron Bridge said. The man had sustained injuries consistent with a fall.
Search and Rescue personnel responded after it was reported that the man's body was found, but had some difficulty reaching the man due to the remote terrain in which he was located, Bridge said.
Widdison had apparently been hiking up to the lake alone, but had a backpack and other supplies on him. Bridge said Widdison also had an ATV in the area.
"He was very well-equipped for a day of enjoying some fishing," he said.
Big Elk Lake is located about 30 miles away from Kamas.
"It's quite a distance from civilization," Bridge said.
