FARMINGTON — Police arrested a Lagoon amusement park employee Sunday night after witnesses said he assaulted three patrons.

Lagoon officials say they are still sorting through the details, but they fired the employee. They say his actions were not acceptable.

Lagoon employee arrested for assaulting park-goers

"It's something that surely shouldn't have happened," Dick Andrew, Lagoon's vice president of marketing, said Monday. "Our employees are trained to handle any kinds of situations with the public in a diplomatic and appropriate manner, and it appears that is not what took place in this case."

Seth Maycock, a 19-year-old park employee, approached some guests in line for the Samari ride to inform them the park was closing. Three brothers, all under the age of 15, were among those in the line. They got upset and began to argue with Maycock.

Andrew said he's not sure who initiated the fight, but Maycock threw some punches, injuring the boys.

"He should not have engaged in any kind of physical contact with a patron or anyone else in the park," Andrew said.

Lagoon security held Maycock until Farmington police officers arrived and arrested him. He's now facing assault charges.

"That is unacceptable behavior on the part of any Lagoon employee under virtually any type of circumstance," Andrew said, "and so we're somewhat embarrassed by that."

Lagoon management immediately fired Maycock. They said they have no tolerance for such behavior.

Maycock had worked at Lagoon since the beginning of this season, and up to this point he had a good history as an employee.

The boys have a few bumps and bruises, but did not suffer serious injuries.
