74-Year Old Accused of Sex Crimes Against Neighbor

Sandra Yi ReportingDavis County investigators are trying to identify more victims after they arrested a man for breaking in to a neighbor's home and molesting her. Police say the cases could go back years.

Lt. Brad Wilcox, Davis County Sheriff's Office: "Obviously, just in this one case, I would call him a sexual predator."

74-Year Old Accused of Sex Crimes Against Neighbor

At 74-years old, Robert Deakin is an unusual suspect in a sex crime against a neighbor.

Lt. Brad Wilcox: "It was apparently a random act."

The victim told police Deakin came into her house, not once or twice, but three times last summer. The victim's husband, who did not want to talk on camera, told us the suspect got in through a sliding glass door.

Lt. Brad Wilcox: "He just came in and immediately made his attack."

According to the police report, the victim confronted the man, who then fondled her and forcibly kissed her, saying, "We're both adults, you don't have to be shy." She pushed the man away and told him to leave.

Lt. Brad Wilcox: "There was nothing taken. Apparently, there was no threats made, it was apparently a sexual relationship that he wanted."

74-Year Old Accused of Sex Crimes Against Neighbor

Investigators say the suspect went back to the house two more times. The victim hid as she heard the man calling out her name.

Lt. Brad Wilcox: "The intent that we're going to try and prove is that on the other two occasions, that he went to the house with the same sexual intentions."

Police say the victim struggled to keep quiet about what happened.

Lt. Brad Wilcox: "She just wanted it to go away. She just wanted to put it behind her, and it didn't, she didn't put it behind her."

Police arrested Deakin Tuesday at his Fruit Heights home. They know of other victims.

Brad Wilcox: "There is an ongoing investigation with other incidents that have happened in Fruit Heights."

Robert Deakin was booked into the Davis County Jail for burglary, attempted forcible sexual abuse and sexual battery. Deakin was arrested for burglary last year. He will be in court facing that charge next month.
