SOUTH SALT LAKE -- Police have resolved a four-hour standoff situation at a home in South Salt Lake, which standoff shut down several blocks of 500 East at about 3800 S. More than a dozen cop cars, as well as the SWAT team in full gear, were involved.
Just before 10 a.m. two people in handcuffs were led from the home near 3900 South and 500 East.
Police now say the incident began with an argument between a husband and wife at the home which quickly escalated. At some point multiple gunshots were fired.
Around 3:30 a.m., the wife left the home and was accidentally injured while leaving, so went to a local hospital. Police were initially called at about 5:45 a.m., and the standoff situation ensued shortly thereafter.
Police negotiated with at least one person who refused to come out of the home.
After four hours, two men were brought out - the husband and one of his friends.
Police say alcohol was a factor in the standoff.
"We want to err on the side of caution. Anytime firearms are involved safety is the main factor. So with that the swat team took all the precautions and it ended well," Keller said.
