SALT LAKE CITY (KSL News/AP) -- Search and rescue crews have found two missing snowmobilers in Box Elder County.
Authorities say the men were found just before eight o'clock this morning, and airlifted to safety. Crews had been working through the night trying to find the men.
Deputies say the men went snowmobiling in Mantua yesterday morning and were supposed to be back in time to watch the Superbowl, but never came home.
Dave Wagner, Stranded Snowmobiler: "We were up here with a large group of people, and they wanted to go home earlier. So we just stayed and played around and dropped into one canyon that we couldn't get out of, and then he had wrecked his sled."
One snowmobile was lodged against a tree, another was stuck in the canyon. They tried to use their cell phones to get out early on, but they were unable to get reception. They then decided to try and hike out.
Ellis Odriscoll, Stranded Snowmobiler: "We just hiked till dark, and then decided we better shelter up."
The two men discovered a mountain cabin nearby, and broke a window to get in.
Dave Wagner, Stranded Snowmobiler: "Got to the cabin, had food, firewood, everything."
By 8 a.m., a helicopter spotted the men at the cabin.
Dave Wagner, Stranded Snowmobiler: "We were actually getting dressed as the helicopter came over. I stepped out the front door and waved my jacket. We were getting ready to hike out."
Crews from both Box Elder and Cache counties helped in the search for the two men in their late 20s and early 30s.
One of the men is apparently from Box Elder County, the other from Weber County.
Both men are said to be O-K.
