NORTHERN UTAH — Spring storms brought wind, rain and damage to northern Utah Wednesday night.
Residents in Murray saw some damage to property thanks to the storm. The winds were so powerful, they blew some sheeting off the roof of a business in the area of 5400 South and 300 West. Firefighters worked quickly to do some minor repairs on scene.
The firefighters say about 10 pieces of big, heavy sheeting blew away. One of them flew into a power line, blowing out a transformer and the power to that business. Murray Power hasn't had any reports of power outages in the city because of this.
Another piece of sheeting broke a window at a home behind the business. No one was home at the time.
Firefighters say it's fortunately no one was hurt by the flying sheeting. "It's big, heavy metal — kind of a corrugated metal — in big, long, 50-foot sections. So it's definitely heavy, and it can be a hazard," said Murray firefighter Jonathan Jastrom.
Further north, about 3,000 customers lost power in Farmington. The power is expected to be out for a while there.
The storm also knocked out power to 161 customers in Layton.
