(KSL News) A wildfire in Zion National Park grew exponentially overnight, from 1,200 acres to more than 8,000.
That forced residents of some homes east of the park to evacuate. The Forest Service also closed the backcountry to hiking, climbing and rappelling, and closed the Lava Point campground.
Other main trails in Zion Canyon are still open.
A fire, in Utah's Iron County has prompted mandatory evacuations.
The lightning-caused Paradise Fire is burning in the Hamlin Valley, west of Beryl.
It's jumped from 150 acres to between 4,000 and 5,000 acres in a matter of hours. It's threatening a couple of dozen structures, including ten homes.
