SALT LAKE CITY — A 35-year-old Taylorsville man was charged with eight different crimes Tuesday for alleged offenses during a road rage spree in which he was intoxicated.
Charges filed in the 3rd District Court Tuesday state Matthew Shane Jones had his 8-year-old son in the truck he was driving when he allegedly swerved around another vehicle and nearly caused a collision.

When the male driver of the other vehicle confronted Jones at a red light, Jones exited his vehicle and threatened the man with a closed fist, charges state. He then punched the man's 15-year-old son in the face, got back into his vehicle and drove away.
A short time later, Jones struck another vehicle while changing lanes, charges state.
Jones was speeding when located by police and refused to take a field sobriety test. Court documents state the man told the officer, "I'm drunk, just take me in."
This is not the first time Jones has tangled with police. He was arrested in December of 2008 when, after getting kicked out of a poker game, punched out a window of the home and threw a planter box through the window. The box hit a man inside and the two got in a fight. Jones then took off and robbed a South Salt Lake pharmacy later that night.
For that incident, Jones was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of felony robbery, felony drug possession and felony fleeing.
After this most recent incident, Jones was charged with driving under the influence, a third-degree felony; driving under the influence, a class A misdemeanor; two counts of child abuse, a class A misdemeanor; failure to stop at injury accident, a class A misdemeanor; two counts of assault, a class B misdemeanor; driving as an alcohol-restricted driver, a class B misdemeanor; and reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor.
