SALT LAKE CITY — Two men were charged Friday with aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, in connection with a fire in the Arrow Press Square building.
According to charges filed in the 3rd District Court, Luke Harrah, 18, and Duncan Jolley, 21, were staying in a vacant area of the building at 125 S. West Temple, on March 25, when they used cardboard to start a fire to cook chili. They both added wood and cardboard to make the fire bigger, up to 3 feet, charges state.
"The fire was larger than would be practical for cooking and caused damages to the building structure floor covering and windows," police said.
The men, who said they had stayed on the fourth floor of the building the night before, ran to the roof exit when they heard the sirens.
Damage was limited to the room where the fire started.
