WEST VALLEY CITY -- Less than 24 hours after a brazen home robbery in which two children were held at gunpoint, a third suspect has been arrested.

Police got a tip and arrested Carl Dicharo, 28, around 10:30 Tuesday night in Midvale. West Valley police Lt. Scott Buchanan says officers were careful because they did not know whether the suspect would be armed.

Dicharo was arrested by West Valley police and members of the Joint Criminal Apprehension Team Tuesday night at an apartment in Midvale, just down the block from the police station.

"He was trying to hide in different locations and get out of town," said supervisory deputy U.S. Marshal Jim Phelps.

JCAT agents surrounded the apartment and ordered Dicharo to come out with his hands up. Phelps said he complied and was taken into custody without incident.

Dicharo joins two other people in the Salt Lake County Jail accused in the crime -- Mary Jean Contreras and Kary Carter. Dicharo was booked on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated burglary.

Early Tuesday, a 10-year-old and 15-year-old girl were home alone while their mother ran an errand to the store, when a man knocked on their door. He asked about their mother, and then asked if he could use the bathroom. The girls let the man in, who then let two others, a male and a female, inside the house.

The girls were forced at gunpoint to lay on the floor, under a blanket, while the trio ransacked the home. When the mother returned, the three ran out the door. The mother followed in her car while calling 911. A short chase with police ensued and two of the people were arrested.

West Valley detectives were able to identify the third person, Phelps said. the JCAT team then developed information on several locations where Dicharo might be and staked them out.

Police are still investigating whether the three choose the West Valley home at random or if there is some reason they targeted that particular home.

They believe everyone involved in this crime is now off the streets.
