WASHINGTON, Washington County -- A Washington man has been charged in the weekend fatal shooting of his wife and stepson.

Richard Andrew Jones, 46, was charged Tuesday in 5th District Court with two counts of aggravated murder, a first-degree felony. He allegedly shot them Friday before turning the gun on himself.

Officers responded shortly before 9 p.m. to a home at 126 W. Wagon Wheel Drive in Washington after Michelle Jones, 42, called 911 to report her husband had just shot her son and was coming after her, according to a police affidavit. The line went dead as neighbors also called police to report gunfire.

When police arrived, they found Michelle Jones and Owen Christopher Ellis, 19, dead. Richard Jones was lying in the garage with a gunshot wound to the head and a .45-caliber handgun nearby, the affidavit states.

Richard Jones told medical personnel he committed the shootings after an argument with his wife, according to the affidavit.

He remained in critical condition Tuesday in a Las Vegas hospital. A judge has issued an arrest warrant and set bail at $250,000.
