SALT LAKE CITY — Newly-elected Rep. Holly Richardson, R-Pleasant Grove, was absent from the Capitol Thursday because of the death of her 3-year-old daughter.

Richardson's daughter Angelia Sariah was born without most of her brain and was adopted at birth by Richardson and her husband, Greg, according to a news release from the House majority. She unexpectedly died in her sleep Thursday morning.

"We knew when we adopted Angelia that she would die at a very young age," Richardson said. "Angelia proved that no matter how we come into the world, we are capable of loving and being loved, that we can be happy and make those around us happy. She was a blessing in our lives and her influence on us will not be forgotten."

Richardson joined the House last week after a special election to fill the District 57 seat left vacant by Craig Frank. She and her husband have 23 other children, many of whom were adopted.
