PHOENIX (AP) -- Gov. Jan Brewer has signed an emergency declaration to assist recovery efforts in northwestern Arizona from last month's flooding from winter storms.
A state statute authorizes Brewer to declare a state of emergency and release an initial $100,000 from the Governor's Emergency Fund.
Brewer's office said Thursday that the money will pay for emergency response costs, flood mitigation work and repairs to public infrastructure in Mohave County such as roads, bridges and flood control works.
The Beaver Dam Resort area near the border of Arizona, Utah and Nevada was hit hard by flash floods from Dec. 18-22. Six homes were destroyed and another dozen suffered substantial damage.
Brewer's office says the border town of Colorado City also was impacted by heavy water flows that caused extensive damage to public infrastructure.
