Kim Johnson Reporting This is the fourth year Salt Lake County aging services has provided Christmas gifts to needy elderly folks through the giving tree program. Generous citizens provided gifts for about 300 elderly people who'd requested the most basic of necessities.

Ken Venables, S.L. County Aging Services: "Mostly the stuff we get is gift cards, robes, socks, stuff for older adults to keep really warm during the colder months."

Gifts Delivered to Elderly Utahns

Today was delivery day. Our cameras followed along as county employees delivered a fruit basket, quilt, clothing, chocolate and a candle to Sister Mary Ann Sommers.

Sister Mary Ann Sommers: "She called me this morning and said there would be gifts given to me, and I thought it would be fruit. When she came with the fruit I didn't realize there would be all these other gifts. It's very lovely."

One of the more humorous requests came from a 107-year old woman who requested a gift certificate to Taco Bell so she could take a friend to lunch.
