WEST VALLEY CITY -- A driver is dead following a three-car accident in West Valley Tuesday evening.

Police say just after 5 p.m., a van traveling west on the 2100 South Frontage Road and tried to pass another vehicle near 3600 West. At the last second, the driver of the van determined he might not be able to pass and overcorrected while trying to get back into his lane.

The van crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic and hit another car head-on. The driver of that car died at the scene; three others were transported to the hospital.

Police are still investigating the accident but say alcohol was a factor.

The names of those involved have not yet been released.
