(File photo)OGDEN -- Close to $5,000 worth of bronze headstones and vases were stolen from Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Ogden last weekend.

"[They] had 20 bronze vases they're approximately 9 inches tall, and they had 5 bronze headstones were stolen," Ogden police Lt. Danielle Croyle said.

Investigators believe the items were taken from the cemetery sometime between 5 p.m. on Oct. 9 and 5 p.m. on Oct. 11.

Croyle said she thinks the thieves took the items to sell for scrap.

"The thing that's sad is the people, the victims are the family members that are still here that have to go through this and try and resolve this and process it themselves," she said.

Police are now searching scrap yards hoping to find the thieves. Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to call the Ogden Police Department at 801-395-8221.
